NEW YORK COMIC-CON: Went and the details will be forthcoming.
2/20/2006
Conventions: I'll be at the NEW YORK COMIC-CON this weekend. I'm going to check it out on Saturday with a few friends. It should be cool! I-Con 25 is a definite go for this year. I won't have the comics printed in color by then :(, but I'm excited to have a table there again. I'll try to have some more new art prints to sell once I finish the 2nd issue. I also have to finish the Illustration for a display that I bought for conventions. Anyway, if you don't see an update here, please check the Comic site. Black & White, and MOHO Comic updated -

I also met some really great people, who were my neighbors in the Small Press Area, Jason Martin of Super Real Graphics had his 1st issue there and some cool Alternate Covers. He had an interesting idea of using the reality TV show concept with super-heroes. The 1st issue introduces you to the characters, their personalities and the premise of the story. I suggest you check out his site with the link by his name or in the network text link section. Jason and his wife are also going to be attending the Wizard Chicago Convention, which you can find out more by going to the Wizard Universe On the last day, Jason's wife gave out plates of cookies, chips, pretzels and more because they had bought too many snacks. It was hilarious and great cuz we had so many plates that I just kept passing them down to Randy and other small press people. I also started telling people passing by the table if they wanted a snack they could have some cookies or chips. Of course, i ate a ton of chips and cookies myself. Thanks again guys for the fun time and hope Chicago goes Great for Super Real Graphics! My other neighbor was Randy Reynaldo of WCG Comics producing the Rob Hanes Online! comics. They are Adventure type stories with a feel of a Young Indiana Jones or Older Johnny Quest. He has a ton of material to read. He was a past Xeric Foundation award winner and nominee of the Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer. We had a lot of cool talks during the show and I met his brother, wife, 2 kids and I think brother-in-law. Very cool peeps and Randy's works are something that should be checked out. Here is a link to Randy site and it is also in my network text links section under Rob Hanes Online!. There are so many things going on at the Comic- Con. that sometimes I almost wish I was just there to enjoy the show itself. Actually this year I got to enjoy more about the show. Jeff had been looking for the anime and couldn't find the rooms. We finally found the schedule in the back of the Convention guide and they had a TON of stuff being shown as usual. Jeff and I saw a bunch of anime once the exhibiter area was closed. I got to see some of Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventures, which is an old anime but a very cool one. I had seen some of the episodes a long time ago and I hope at some point I'll be able to get them because they are cool. We saw a couple episodes from Ninja scroll the TV series, which were interesting. It wasn't as cool as the original movie, but was nice. Tenjho Tenge was cool but we only got to see one episode and everyone in the room including Jeff and I were hoping they'd show another. I missed Puppet Princess cuz I had to get something to drink and I needed to go to the neighboring hotel to get one. Jeff said I should have stayed to watch. Well, I did return in time to see Shoot Fighter Tekken, which was funny, I liked the animation style and of course being a Street Fighter anime had some cool fighting sequences. I wish I had gotten to watch Dead Leaves because Jason, Super Real Graphics, had told me about how excellent an anime it was, but it was showing on Saturday night and we all planned on going out on the town that night. I'll have to rent the sucker. Saturday night George, Zack, Rich, Jeff and myself went out. Next year I have to bring better clothes, so I can get into better places. Anyway George had found one spot so we had a couple drinks there. After Zack, Rich decided to call it a night Jeff wanted to go to Mexico. We had found out Rich had gone the previous night while Jeff and I were watching Anime. George was done for the night too, but having gone to Mexico a number of times he told Jeff and I how to get there and back. We initially were going to take the trolley and had bought round trip tickets but soon realized that the trolley wasn't coming. We checked the schedule, which I advise people to do before they buy their tickets unlike us idiots, the next trolley wasn't going our way until 5 or 7 in the morning. We almost gave up. Jeff suggested we go by cab and we did even though it really cost a lot O MONEY - OUCH. We got to the border and streams of peeps were heading in. We followed and took George's advise to go to Revolution drive. Oooo the club we ended up in was HOT. The rest is R rated and we didn't get back to the hotel till 7 in the Morn. I slept an hour then woke up , took a shower and headed back to the convention center. Jeff the lucky bastard got to sleep half the day. I also had I guy from Warner Bros. checking out my comic. He told me he liked the concept and bought the 2 issues I had. Plus, another guy, Tony, from a small company that produces all types of swords and antiques is interested in backing the comic financially for certain rights. Tony actually got in touch with me recently and we'll have to see how far along I get and what exactly his company wants, but he sounded very interested and excited about the potentials. I want to be a little further along with what I have done before I start to consider other media and merchandise. He was cool cuz he respected my wanting to wait a little before pitching anything to his boss. Anyway, San Diego was Great and I definitely have to go again next year!! 6/27/2005 Yume Comics update -

If you ever read the Manhwa NOW, then you probably loved what you read and seen so far (well at least I have). I kept waiting for Volume 6 to come out and it seemed it may never come out. Sorta like my comic. Anyway, I checked ComicsOne's website and there was no more website, so I thought that would be the end of NOW - at least in the USA. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it has been quickly picked up by another company that hopes to bring even a more faithful version of the Manhwa to the US. They are re-releasing the original 5 volumes that ComicsOne put out and will subsequently publish later volumes - hopefully soon. I hope to see them at San Diego, since they said they should have display versions of NOW. The new versions should have some color pages in them and I love Park Sung Woo's color work. I'm also hoping that the books will be a little bigger and more the average Manga size. Anywho if you want to check out there website and read up on NOW just click Infinity Studios. I finally got all the dialog down for the 2nd Issue of MOHO, so I'm hoping that will also speed up the process of getting the pages done. 6/4/2005 Black & White Galleries-

3/20/2005 Yume Comics update - After fighting the Bloody Gods themselves, I've started posting thumbnails for the upcoming pages to Issue 2 of MOHO. There are about 7 nu thumbs. More coming. I changed the HTML code and that was one of the biggest time consumers, which was also the biggest fight between me and the HTML and CSS Gods. GRRRrrr hate those code Gods!! ACK Black & White Gallery - I forgot I had uploaded some nu sketches to the B & W gallery on March 12. Well if you haven't seen those then there are 7 nu sketches. If you had seen those then there are 2 nu sketches. 2 of the sketches are of the internet model Nikoma Lee. She always looks great and has a yahoo group. She had sent me a photo to reference a long long long time ago and I didn't think that I did a great job or at least did her Justice. The 1st of the 4 nu sketches I did of her recently is a better version then my first attempt which is on the bottom row of the B & W Gallery. Now I have to find the time to paint it, so I can a achieve the best portrait I can do. I've been waiting till my skills got a lot better to start tackling portraits or illustrations of Well Known Models. Speaking of Illustrations and well known models, 1 of the nu sketches is of Adriana Sage. I plan on using that pose but changing the sketch into a Fantasy illustration. Adriana has a contest on her website for artists. So, I'm hoping I can accomplish finishing a number of Fantasy illustrations using her by San Diego's Comic Con International 2005. If she likes what I've done then perhaps I can sell those illustrations in conjunction with her. I think she might be attending the San Diego Convention again this year. I met her last year at the show and she is very beautiful in person and very nice. I gave her one of my ashcans. I forgot to bring the old portrait I did of her, but I'm going to bring that this year as well. The year is getting quite interesting. About a week after Dark Star 9, got in touch with me about purchasing some art. A major comic publishing company showed a possible interest in my writing. However, I don't know when anything will happen or if anything will happen. It is just really nice to see that people are starting to take notice of my practically killing myself to fulfill my dream. I also put up a link to Dark Star 9 and Black Sheep Comics in the network section. Ben of Black Sheep Comics sat next to me at last years San Diego Convention. Him and his sister were great. I should have had a link up a long time ago but I just never found the time. His sister and I sorta teamed up to sell our respective comics to anybody who passed our table. It was great, usually anyone who did buy her brother's comic also bought mine and visa versa. Hopefully I'll see them again at San Diego 2005. Also Dark Star 9 is seeking more gallery images, 10 per artists, gothic, sci-fi, fantasy, comic heroes and heroines. Images must be original art with copyrights owned by the artists. I think it is a great service they are doing for artists. It is free by the way. Just check their website for details on submissions. 2/27/2005

Some interesting developments have also happened during the last couple weeks. One thing is that a gaming website has paid to use a couple of my images for there site's design. And the Moho lab 3D pics are finally finished and posted in the 3D design Gallery. Check that out through the comic link above. I'll show the 3D views this week and 2D renderings from the lab next week. The 2D renderings actually take longer to generate. 11/27/2004 Black & White Gallery -
Posted revised background elements for pages in MOHO issue 1 in the 3D design Gallery. Check that out through the comic link above. Saw "The Incredibles" by Pixar. It was INCREDIBLE!!! ^_^ Pixar is great. I think in overall entertainment "Finding Nemo" was better, but "The Incredibles" was not far behind it. They seem to really workout great original stories that are entertaining on many different levels. I only hope one day to be able to achieve the level of skill that they have in bringing a vision of work to life - regardless of the medium. Also saw "The Art of Halo" book at the comic book store and it has some awesome concept designs and finished art. At first I couldn't believe they had published a book on the art behind a video game, although I do think I have seen a couple before by squaresoft [now square-enix]. Anyway, this one reminded me of "The Art of Star Wars" books and I mean the newer ones from Episode 1 and 2 which are totally amazing. "The Art of Halo" has work from Craig Mullins who is like a GOD of art. Check out the book, I have to pick it up at some point. 11/20/2004 Nu Navigation for Galleries -
11/15/2004 3D Construction - Sorry I haven't posted anything in a million years, but I have been trying like crazy to learn a 3D program called CARRARA. Why CARRARA because it was what was available from a friend and works on my computer. Also he had used it before and said it wasn't too complicated. Well in certain ways the design and set-up of the program is not to complicated, but trying to create something more complicated than the simple objects they give you was HARD OH OH very difficult. I still have no idea how many of the Extrusion or other modeling tools work. I used a Boolean procedure most of the time to subtract objects from objects and combine them. Needless to say that all my constructs didn't always come out the way I wanted them too. Ok, so why am I learning a 3D program in the first place. Since I am trying to do the MOHO project in color and everything is done by me ( due to lack of money ) - actually a friend of mine just helped flat fill about half of the 1st issue of MOHO, so that when I paint it, it should go faster. Anyway besides the Flat Filling there is still too much to do and I want to make sure I can get things done in a timely manner once I go to printing in color. So, I figured If I have most of the backgrounds designed in a 3D program it will be easier for me to get things done. I finally finished constructing CUNA the main village in the MOHO story - mostly the exteriors of buildings - and have posted a bunch of the renderings in a new 3D section in the Comic part of the website. If your interested in checking it out - CLICK the COMIC Link above click the galleries section and then enter the 3D DESIGN Gallery. Sketches - posted 2 more Black and White sketches. 9/6/2004 MOHO - I posted the Cover for issue 2 in the comic section. Sketches - posted 2 more Black and White sketches. 8/30/2004 MOHO - I posted thumbnails of pages 7 n 8 of issue 2 in the comic section. Sketches - posted 2 more Black and White sketches. 8/22/2004 MOHO - I posted thumbnails of pages 4 - 6 of issue 2 in the comic section. Sketches - posted 6 more Black and White sketches. 8/8/2004 Sketches - If you click on Galleries and then Sketches you'll see the first all Digital works I've done. 2 are color and 7 are Black and White sketches. The last of the new sketches in B & W is of Wolverine. It is time to pound out some work. Now that San Diego is over I'll be focusing big time on MOHO's 2nd issue (about time), writing and art. Try to give more specifics tomorrow, but another thing I want to try to do is have at least a new sketch or sketches posted a week besides trying to update MOHO regularly. 7/31/2004 San Diego Comic Con International - July 22 - 25 OMG OMG OMG OMG OH MY GOD! San Diego is off the hook. I went about 10 years ago, when I was coloring for Milestone Media. It was a huge show then but now it was at least TWICE the size it was then. I think it was over 2 football fields in size and that is only counting the 1st floor. There was crap going down on the second floor and I think 3rd floor too. When I arrived in the San Diego Airport, I got in touch with Jose about our hotel room; He was already at the preview night and told me it was a DANGEROUS SHOW. He meant OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNTS of TEMPTATION for your $$$$$ and mine. He was right. Thursday - Walked into the main hall after going through exhibiters registration and BAM! standing in the middle of the whole complex your vision went from one horizon to the other lengthwise and the mother was WIDE TOO. The displays the Big Boys had were huge. The Lucas Pavillion was the largest. I went to my Small Press Table and Jose found out that FedEX was going to be late with our comics. That took some of the rush away. :( I decided to walk around the convention since the main reason I was there hadn't arrived yet. I was probably about 2 hours before I went back to my table. The convention doors were open to the public for about an hour and a half and it was already busy. It wasn't even the weekend yet. Anyway, I met my neighbors in the Small press area - Ben Seto of Black Sheep Comics and Mike, Joshua, and Brad of Atomic Basement Entertainment. Mike and those guys were promoting a comic about the fine art of character assassination on George W. Bush. They were doing well. Ben was sitting close by drawing his head off. I was trying to get people to notice my stuff. I still didn't have my comic and I got more worried as the day went on. I had my art prints with me and in the past that is all I sold and I usually made enough to cover costs, but this year they didn't seem to be selling very much. Anyway, I told Ben about my comic situation and he told me what happened to him at the San Diego Con. last year and my situation didn't seem so bad. I found out from Ben that the guy next to him also hadn't received his comics and he had come from OHIO. I finally got my comics around 4:30 pm Thursday and was able to sell some. The guy from OHIO never got his books the whole convention. That TOTALLY SUCKED!! Friday - Jose showed me the Jeff Smith BONE Collected BIG Volume and I had to get it for $40. They also sold a Hard cover - I think leather bound version for $125, but to much money for me. They sold out of both versions very quickly. I also had to pick up the latest installment in the FREZZATO's The Keepers of the Maser - It was half price $8. Anyway, Friday's crowd was starting to get thick. Incredible how many people were already there in the morning. My friend George was nice enough to give me breaks and watch my table for a little while. It really is a dangerous show because there is so much cool stuff and so many cool people's work you admire to look at only look Dave no more buying. I sold a lot more this day and Ben's sister had taken over his table. She really like a particular ashcan that Ben had written and drawn. She got really good at selling it. Ben lost a bet to her on the amount she could sell that ashcan. They had to go print more for the next day. Saturday - The GRAND CLIMAX - This Day the Mother Load came in. Tons upon Tons of peeps came. I sold twice what I sold on Thursday and Friday combined. When George let me take a break I found areas of the convention that were so packed with peeps that it was impenetrable. It was damn exciting to see other people just enjoying all the varied types of entertainment around them. Celebrities, models, fantasy showcases - swords for sale, toys from all over the world, of course Comics, Manga, Manhwa, Manhuo, animations, films and I even saw a DJ spinning for his own booth on one end of the show. That is the only thing that is bad about having your own table or booth is you can't see everything the show has to offer. One reason I give a BIG SHOUT of THANKS to my friend George - for looking after my table and selling some of my crap from time to time. I tried to check out a lot of the artist I liked and looked at all the animation that was being sold. Didn't get any. I saw some DVD tutorials from one company and told another friend about it. He asked me to buy 2 of them but they had already sold out of one. They were selling for $50 at the Con. and $70 normally. The same booth was also selling a couple cool books. The tutorials were from a lot of concept and design artists - Scott Robertson, Ryan Church, Carlos Huante, Feng Zhu and more. I have Feng Zhu in my links page. His stuff is awesome and so are the other guys. Ryan Church did a lot of design work on Star Wars Episode II. One of the greatest things that happened at the convention was running into people I hadn't expected to see and some I hadn't seen for years and years. Burrell came out of nowhere and popped up in front of my table. It was AWESOME. I hadn't seen him for probably 8 years. He and I worked for Milestone media as painted colorists (we used a water color type media). We talked for a while and exchanged contact info. He is working on the Family Guy animation. Then I ran into Jackie, another Milestoner. She is an editor at a book publishing company and they had a booth there. On the same break I spotted Jason in the crowd - yet another Milestone peep. He is doing work in the video field in NY. I got to have dinner with Jackie, Jason, some of Jackie cohorts and my amigos. After, I had worked for Milestone I worked at Broadway Comics - coloring on the computer for them. Low and behold I saw Jim Shooter, the main man behind Broadway Comics, standing next to my table. He is working on a new project. He recognized me once he saw my name. It was such a ccol day, but that was not the end. That night George and I went out to check the night life and we met a bunch of the guys who worked for ADULT SWIM on the cartoon network. George was especially happy because he was drunk like me but because these were the minds behind some of George's favorite shows. I watch more of the Anmie on Adult Swim so didn't know there particular shows to well. They were great guys though. One guy, Mike talked to us for quite sometime and he was very cool. He gave us his biz card and said I could email him. I have to find his card, because I'm still a little disorganized. Anyway, near the later part of the Convention day Ben's sister and I started working as a team selling her brother's comic in conjunction with mine. We had realized that many of the people who bought there book also bought mine and visa versa. I think we worked really well selling the 2 comics. Saturday was an amazing day of great surprises and great people. Sunday - It was still crowded but nothing like the day before. Ben and his sister Melody were not going to work there table today, because they had to start heading home. It was hard to believe the convention was almost over and we would all be going back to our regular jobs soon. I sold about as much as I did on Sunday as on Friday. Jose, Daphne and I already decided we want to attend next years Comic-Con. Next year were going to try and bring a huge crew, which will help us bring the cost of going down. I might split my table and will stuff the hotel room with peeps. I've got to try and get in touch with everyone I met for the first time and reconnect with those I haven't seen in a long long time. I'm still organizing but will be crafting a Biz Card, Biz Logo for a friend, Music CD Cover, and MOHO's 2nd issue. I also sold out of the 1st printing of the MOHO ashcan and the Yume Store now has the 2nd printing of the ashcan available. I posted the photos I took at the Convention to the EVENTS page. That's it for now mi GENTE!!! ^_^ 6/20/2004 4 KIDS Entertainment - Well, recently I got a chance to meet the peeps at 4Kids Entertainment. They put out a lot of the kids orientated anime. The only American project they work on is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A friend of mine Joe from,Verge Entertainment emailed me about the job openings w/ 4Kids in NYC. The people at 4Kids were very nice and my interview went over an hour I think. Roy, the creative or Storyboard director was really cool and even though I told him I had no animation experience he told me about a book to buy to help with some of the terminology and the process of storyboarding for film. Roy still let me take the test for storyboarding and though I didn't do to well I learned a lot from the experience. I thought storyboarding for comics was pretty much the same for film, but there are quite a few differences that I now realize can make a world of a difference in the layout of a film. Now, I am going to practice the concept of storyboarding for film as well as contiinue improving my comic story telling. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) will be starting production on a new season. Maybe there will be more opportunities with futures seasons and I plan to be prepared. Even if I got a job there or anywhere else, I of course would still use my free time to continue working on my own stuff. 6/16/2004 Comic Con International - San Diego - July 22 - 25 I just got the notice of approval for a Small Press Table at the San Diego Comic Con. . I know Jose, Daphne of Dream Weaver Press already have one and they said I could crash in there hotel room. This will be the ultimate show to go to. I can't wait. I am almost out of the 1st printing of the MOHO ashcan and will be printing up a 2nd edition in about 2 weeks. I went to the San Diego Con. about ten years ago when I was coloring for Milestone Media. It is supposed to be even bigger then it was then and it was HUGE then. In my INFO packet it said the amount of attendees will be around 75,000 this year. ^_^ YAHOOO!!! CAN"T WAIT CAN"T WAIT!!!!! I'm already listed in the Small Press Area - under Yume Comics. Wizard World Convention - Philadelphia - May 21 - 23 I went to Philly with a crew of 6. Jose, Daphne and Matt of Dream Weaver Press, Dave Quiles of Infinite Line Comics, Benito of Mustard Seed Comics and myself. I already posted photos from the Philly Con., but may get more from Jose and Daphne. I had a lot of fun with everyone there, but didn't do to well in the selling department. I gave out tons of Bizness Cards and sold as many comics as I did at I-CON convention, however I was hoping to do a bit better since it was a bigger Con. and more Comic orientated. Oh well. 5/12/2004 Wizard World Convention - Philadelphia - May 21 - 23 I hope to have the two new Illustrations related to the MOHO comic done by then. I'm starting to paint them tomorrow. I can't wait till the convention. I have never been to Philly or the convention there, so i think it will be a lot of fun. I'm going with a whole bunch of peeps. I think were cramming 7 people into the hotel room. I'll sleep on the ceiling, because i could careless as long as I get to go. I have about 60 issues left of the 1st printing of the MOHO Ashcan and I hope to sell them all. Plus I hope to sell a lot of my art prints since i have never been to this CON. Laz and Justin I know won't be going, but Jose and Daphne from Dream Weaver Press will be there. They are a couple of the peeps I'm heading over there with. On the Art work Front - I still have half of the 1st issue to color, so that comes after the new Illustrations are done. Then I start drawing the 2nd issue again. Sorry to all those waiting to find out what happens next. I'm doing all this work myself, not to mention working other jobs to make money. I have posted the Black and White versions of the new MOHO Illustrations in the MOHO Galleries and added Concept Designs of many of the main characters of MOHO in its respective Gallery - just click the Comic link above to get to those galleries. Website Revamp - The MOHO section under the Comic Link has been altered greatly. I put all the different MOHO art related works in one gallery link that then links to the separate galleries - ILLUSTRATIONS, CONCEPT DESIGNS AND SKETCHES. Which I'll probably do with the DMON site eventually, but later. I finally have banners made up in the network section, which is where u can find links to all kinds of stuff I like, appreciate and aspire to. An Events section was also added to show photos of places I go to, to sell my art and comic. I still need to put up a profile but that will probably be after Philadelphia or after the 2nd issue is complete. Online Store - Finally, got the Online store up. It only has the MOHO comic for sale right now, but I hope to be selling my Art prints through it sometime after the convention. Online store is in the comic section as well. I'll put a direct link here as soon as possible too. Last thingy - I'll write more about how the I-CON convention went soon. 5/10/2004 One Month Later .... So much has happened and I haven't written an update in quite a while. I'll write more tomorrow, but if you haven't noticed I've been mostly working on the website to make it look better and better. I've also revamped the MOHO section of the Website. I still have to put up my Profile, which will probably come after the Wizard World Philadelphia Convention. More Details tomorrow. 3/10/2004 I-CON 23 Sci-FI and Fantasy Convention at Stony Brook University - March 26 -29 I've been working very hard at grayscaling and resizing the colored pages I've done of issue 1, so that I can have the ashcan printed out by I-CON. I hope to get a proof of the ashcan by this Friday and then the printing begins. YES!!!!! This will be my first self-published project. I also have to remake my business cards in the name of Yume Comics, instead of Obsidian Graph-X. If anyone is going to I-CON then you will only see Obsidian Graph-X listed in the program, because we set it up that way last year. So, come check out the OGX table in the Dealer's room. Laz and Justin should also be there this year. Next on the agenda, finish the painting of Issue 1. Then I start drawing Issue 2 again. Somewhere in between that I'll be redoing the NETWORK or links page, adding my PROFILE and adding an EVENTS page to either this site or the Yume Comics one. Generally, I'm going to be using dmontoya.com as my personal site and Yume Comics as my Bizness site. 3/2/2004 See I told you it looks new. It should also be easier for me to update. Now I gotta finish the rest of the links so i can get back to actual updates. Now I want to redesign the header image I have at the top of the MOHO page. More later. 2/26/2004 Ok I uploaded the painted versions of PAGES 6 - 8 from THE MOHO COMIC. Working on getting an Ashcan (Black and White Version normally smaller than comic size, but I am going with actual comic size) printed to sell at upcoming conventions. I'm going to use the sales of my Art and Ashcans to help fund printing the color version. I-Con at Stony Brook University will be the first convention I go to this year. More details soon. 2/16/2004 Ok I uploaded the painted version of PAGE 5 from THE MOHO COMIC too. Back to the grind. 2/14/2004 To give an idea of what the painted version of THE MOHO COMIC will look like I've posted the first 4 pages in color. Check them out in the COMIC section and tell me what you think. 2/7/2004 Added new paintings and a sketch to the model section in the MAIN GALLERY, plus I posted a higher resolution version of the blue bird - which is the entrance image to YUME Comics - I sketched and painted in Photoshop 7 in the Sketches and Stuff section in the MAIN GALLERY. 2/3/2004 Ouch! it has been a month... almost. Well if someone has ventured into my comic area they will notice that the web redesigning has begun. It doesn't use any tables or frames. It is completely constructed using CSS - Cascading Style Sheets. This should make it more compliant with the future of web design not to mention I made it easier for myself to change things. I'm still coloring the 1st issue of MOHO and rewriting the 2nd. I needed a break from the rewrite so i finally poured myself into learning CSS. It seems to work fine on my Macintosh, but I have no idea what it might look like on a PC. The new design is better suited for monitor screens set to 1024 X 768. I'll put up some new sketches and crap in next couple of days and will post an update of some sort every week. Yume Comics will be the Company name I will publish under. U can Also see the little birdy I sketched out and painted in Photoshop. If you click on the bird you'll enter the new MOHO Comic domain. 1/12/2004 First attempt at Drawing Nikoma Lee. I updated the MOHO Gallery - click the Comic Link - with the Concept Designs I posted earlier here of the Xenling for 4 of the Major GODS in MOHO - Qi, Omiyang, Naoru, and Muerte. Also updated the Main Gallery with sketches and paintings of Models. Having difficulty with the 2nd issue layouts so hopefully new pages will come soon. 1/6/2004 Another sketch that I think is at least decent. Study of a woman's face I also recently got in touch with the Model Nikoma Lee by posting in her Yahoo Group. When I finish working on a portrait of her from a high rez photo, I'll post it. I think I'm getting better at these but I'm going to put so much sweat into this one. I plan on doing some more DragonLily and Chyna White sketches. I have some photos of them posing together now from DragonLily's website. DragonLily even has a link to me YEAH. I have a portrait of both DragonLily and Chyna White in my Main Gallery under Model Sketches or Paintings:. What I would really like to do at some point is use models who want to work with me for my illustrations. Maybe even a joint idea on the composition. For example, If I were to draw a fantasy painting of a fighter elf in armor sitting on top of a dragon. It would be cool if you knew the model you could tell that she was the elf and it would still work as an over all illustration that would look good on the cover of a book or Dragon magazine. I have been working on the revamp ideas for my website and I know I haven't put up the about me on this version, so I might put that section first. I'll probably be assembling the new design piece by piece. Specking of pieces, I'm currently reading ONE PIECE a manga -Japanese comic book- published by VIZ. It is a very fun book or graphic novel to read - One Piece is about Luffy who wants to be King of the Pirates and his attempt to find the greatest pirate treasure called ONE PIECE. I'm also reading Naruto - which is similar in the same action adventure/comedy sense as One Piece but it deals with Naruto coming of age and developing into a skilled Ninja,, Love Hina - which I think is classified as a romantic comedy and deals with Keitaro trying to fulfil a promise he made to a girl when he was very young - it is great to see the crazy stuff that goes on in this book and how Naru and Keitaro react off each other, and Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School - Martial Arts madness with some cool and then also wacky characters. Since I have taken Karate and help teach Taekwondo at my martial arts school I like this stuff. Anywho more crap to come as I tie myself to my drawing table and my younger brother Niko barricades my door shut. Lastly, I read that FARSCAPE will be creating 4 all new episodes. I read it on the Save Farscape website. This is my all time favorite show. It went 4 seasons on the Sci/Fi channel and was sign up to go 5 seasons until Sci/Fi pulled the plug. It was a critically acclaimed show winning a number of awards. The show had a linear design to its story structure which i think it made it harder for people to get on the band wagon later. Anyway, if you haven't seen the show i highly recommend it. it also has so many facets to it. The relationships between the characters grow together and sometimes apart. It has one of the best love romances I have ever seen. John Crichton, the main character and Aeryn Sun's relationship is so well written. I hope to do something of this quality. I copied this from the Save Farscape website for anyone interested to know more: WHAT IS FARSCAPE? Farscape tells the story of John Crichton, an astronaut who finds himself on the other side of the galaxy after a mishap during an experimental flight. Arriving in the midst of a battle scene in deep space, Crichton falls in with a trio of alien convicts fleeing from captivity by the Peacekeepers, a spacefaring military force. Now, blamed for the accidental death of a Peacekeeper Captain's brother, Crichton finds himself a fugitive as well...alongside enemy pilot Aeryn Sun, exiled by that same Captain due to her prolonged exposure to John Crichton. By itself, this premise would set the stage for traditional action and adventure, which Farscape provides in abundance. But the show expands to a greater scale than is first apparent...and at the same time, narrows to focus on an all-too-real personal dilemma. On the grand scale, Crichton's knowledge of wormholes (a theoretical means by which space and time can be traversed instantly) makes him the target of forces who wish to use this as a weapon. Crichton finds himself caught between hopes of returning home, and the fear of opening the way for his adversaries to conquer not only Earth but ultimately the whole of reality. Meanwhile, Crichton' personal reality is consumed by his travails with Aeryn Sun, with whom he shares a growing attraction. Thrown together and torn apart again, the pair must face not only alien menaces and time warps, but also issues of trust and respect and honesty...like any modern couple. In Farscape, the grand scheme of things and the small scale of personal crisis come together in surprising ways. Farscape also distinguishes itself with knowing references to the conventions of the science-fiction genre, playfully tweaking cliches and defying audience expectations without becoming farce or satire, and without losing the central drama of John Crichton's situation. Like their viewers, the creators of Farscape are science-fiction aficionados (listing among their past credits such series as Stargate SG-1, SeaQuest DSV, The Pretender, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Swamp Thing, Alien Nation, and The Twilight Zone) and know what has been done before. Their willingness to overturn genre cliches engages their viewers in a shared deconstruction of the form and its standard routines. In Farscape, the heroes might sever the limbs of one of their own for a chance to return to their homes... characters chide one another for falling into the trap of "technobabble"...the villains can win, and all too often do...and the lead character is plagued by doubt and indecision, rather than being a stalwart figure of unswerving virtue. Moreover, like his creators and his audience, the character of John Crichton is a science-fiction fan and a savvy pop culture buff — his rapid-fire cultural references include riffs on Kirk, Spock, Klingons, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, as well as Blazing Saddles and Monty Python — enabling the audience to see a reflection of themselves in him. As one fan puts it, "With Farscape, these people made the kind of show they wanted to watch themselves, and trusted the audience enough to believe there would be other people who felt the same way. That kind of respect for the viewer comes through in the show, and we respond to that." Farscape is a production of The Jim Henson Company, best known for The Muppet Show as well as contributions to such films as the Star Wars movies and Babe: Pig In The City. Farscape employs the animatronic puppetry techniques developed for the Muppets to depict the variety of aliens encountered by Crichton during his journey. Conceived partly as a showcase for state-of-the-art animatronics, makeup, special effects, and computer graphics, the series is intended for an adult audience and explores realistic issues and sexuality as well as the fantastic. Alongside the animatronic thespians are a cast of human actors, including Ben Browder (Party of Five) as John Crichton, and Claudia Black (from the feature films Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned and Pitch Black) as his love interest Aeryn Sun. Virginia Hey (best known to American audiences from roles in The Living Daylights and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior but also prominent on Australian TV series such as Neighbours and Prisoner: Cell Block H) portrays their ally, the serene but playful alien priestess Zhaan. Anthony Simcoe as the youthful but fearsome warrior D'Argo and Gigi Edgley as the sensual and mischievous Chiana also feature in the cast of regular and recurring characters portrayed by the finest actors in Australia. Kent McCord (an American icon for his role in Adam-12) has a recurring role as Crichton's father. The series is produced and filmed in Sydney, Australia and boasts some of the highest production values currently to be found on television anywhere. 1/4/2004 I finally finished this portrait but I need to work on my painting more. I think it looks better with the underlying drawing. Maybe becasue there is more contrast I am not sure but judge for yourselves. I just know I have to work harder and faster at everything, while trying to improve with each step. Here is the portrait of Adrianna Sage, now with the underlying drawing version A. Sage, next a close-up of the face Close-up, lastly close-up with underlying drawing Close-up 2 1/3/2004 Changed Qi design of color to Black and White and shades of gray instead of White Black and Red. This is to show that Qi encompasses all. The white and black triangles in an up and down position show the opposites in a heaven vs hell and light vs darkness. The white pyramids would contain all the colors like white light. The shades of gray around the pyramids represent everything in between the polarizing white and black. Also added Naoru Xenling. God of Healing 1/2/2004 THE END AND THE BIRTH All I can say is that Last YEAR for me was mostly a horror show. Part of my Holidays ended pretty much in a nightmare, which i hoped would not repeat itself on New Year's Eve. My Papa promised not to drink that night, so it turned out FINE. I am VERY VERY GLAD 2003 is over. I know that there is no real difference in the passing from one day in December into a day in January, but one can hope ones luck changes the next year. Regardless of how bad things get in 2004, I am going to work DAMN HARD to TOTALLY UTTERLY SHATTER MY CURRENT EXISTENCE AND RESHAPE IT AS BEST AS ONE CAN. I have so many things floating around in my head and I will put them to word and drawings and occasionally just word. Sometime this year Obsidian Graph-X will become defunct. Our group might try to keep the name for future use, but I think I'll be the only one trying to consistently have a Web presence. We will hopefully still be attending most of the conventions together. Everyone is off doing there own thing right now and so tis for the best. I was originally thinking of publishing under the OGX LOGO, but now I will publish under YUME comics. When I revamp my site I will start using YUME comics, with MOHO under that banner. I'll then have these urls. http://www.dmontoya.com/
I'm posting design concepts for 3 of the Xenling - these are the Avatars of the #1 God Qi, the daughter of Qi - Omi Yang, Sun/Light/Fire and Sky Goddess and Muerte God of the Dead. Qi Xenling, next is the Omi Yang Xenling and last is the Muerte Xenling. I hope to get some new pages up soon, and as usual sorry for delays to anyone that may still want to read the comic.
